Rescue Back Up (RBU) Policy

Purpose.

The purpose of this policy is to outline the Rescue Back Up (RBU) commitment provided by Canine Welfare Fund to adopters and to the dogs in our care. Rescue Back Up demonstrates our ongoing responsibility to every dog we rehome and our continued support for adopters throughout the dogs lifetimes.

The Canine Welfare Fund is committed to ensuring that that every dog adopted through our organisation has a safety net for life. We recognise that circumstances can change, and we remain dedicated to the welfare of our dogs regardless of age, time since adoption, or the circumstances under which the dog originally entered rescue.

Scope of Rescue Back Up

Our Rescue Back Up support includes, but is not limited to:

  • Ongoing advice and guidance following adoption.

  • Access to our behaviourist team for behavioural support.

  • Access to canine law professionals where appropriate.

  • Support from our rehoming team if circumstances change.

  • Assistance in resolving issues that may arise post adoption.

We aim to ensure adopters feel supported, valued and confident in seeking help whenever needed.

Health Matters

Rescue Back Up does not cover veterinary cost or health conditions that arise after adoption.

However:

  • Any known health issues identified prior to adoption will be fully disclosed by our rehoming team.

  • Adopters will be provided with the dogs available medical history to share with their chosen veterinary practice.

Transparency is a key part of our adoption process to ensure adopters can make informed decisions.

If Difficulties Arise

If an adopter experiences difficulties with their adopted dog, they are encouraged to contact Canine Welfare Fund as soon as possible. Early communication allows us to provide appropriate support and explore solutions that prioritise the welfare of both the dog and the adopter. Support may include behavioural guidance, practical advice, or assistance from our specialist teams.

Return and Rehoming

If an adopter becomes unable to keep their dog. Canine Welfare Fund will accept the dog back into rescue. As a foster based rescue without kennel facilities:

  • We may require time to arrange a suitable foster placement before the dog can be returned.

  • Adopters will be asked to cooperate and remain patient during this process.

Our priority is to ensure any transition is safe, planned and in the best interest of the dog.

Commitment

By implementing thus Rescue Back Up Policy, Canine Welfare Fund reaffirms its lifelong commitment to every dog it rehomes and to the adopters who provide them with loving homes. We believe responsible rescue extends adoption day and continues for the lifetime of the dog.
