Luna came into our care very unsettled and defensive, with a history that will likely always be part of who she is. She is not an aggressive dog in the slightest, but she needs someone who genuinely understands the breed, their genetics and the importance of allowing her to feel safe rather than trying to suppress her natural traits.

Luna is very quick to react. An experienced handler who can read her properly, recognise the early signs and intervene appropriately will be able to manage and work through this with her. However, her responses are simply too quick for an inexperienced home.

Luna can potentially live with calm, low key smaller dogs who are respectful of her space. Large dogs are a no for Luna in a normal pet home. She needs an owner who understands tricky dog dynamics and knows how to manage situations appropriately.

She is slowly learning to trust the outside world and is making really positive progress. Luna absolutely loves her food and, when she isn’t stressed, she is highly food motivated, engaged and very willing to work.

Luna is also naturally protective of her home. She will bark when people enter and can take time to trust unfamiliar visitors. Once she has had the opportunity to assess someone and understands they are safe, she becomes much more comfortable.

For the right person, Luna’s natural traits can be channelled appropriately rather than suppressed. She would also make a fantastic natural deterrent in the home simply by being herself.

Luna is a lovely, sensitive girl who needs clear boundaries, the right environment and an experienced person who truly understands what makes German Shepherds tick.

She isn’t a dog for an inexperienced owner, but in knowledgeable hands, Luna has so much to offer.
