Canine Intake Policy

Our Specialist Focus

Canine Welfare Fund operates as a specialist rescue dedicated to supporting dogs that may be overlooked by general rehoming organisations. We focus on dogs requiring additional care, rehabilitation or understanding.

We prioritise intake of dogs including:

● Dogs with physical disabilities or complex medical needs

● Dogs who have experienced neglect, abuse, or trauma

● Dogs with behavioural challenges requiring rehabilitation

● Dogs at risk of euthanasia due to circumstances beyond their control

● Dogs for whom suitable homes are difficult to secure

By specialising in these cases, we aim to give vulnerable dogs a second chance through tailored care, structured rehabilitation and carefully matched placements.

Intake Assessment

Before accepting a dog into our care, we will assess:

● The dog’s physical and behavioural needs

● Available foster or rehabilitation placement

● Veterinary requirements and associated costs

● The charity’s capacity and resources

We will only accept dogs when we are confident that we can meet their needs responsibly and without compromising the welfare of dogs already in our care.

Veterinary Care

All dogs taken in by Canine Welfare Fund will receive appropriate veterinary attention, which may include:

● Health examination

● Vaccination (where appropriate)

● Microchipping

● Parasite treatment

● Neutering (subject to age, health, and veterinary advice)

Any known medical conditions will be disclosed fully to prospective adopters.

Behavioural Assessment and Rehabilitation

Where necessary, dogs will undergo behavioural assessment and rehabilitation. This may include:

● Structured training plans

● Environmental management

● Professional behavioural support where appropriate

Our aim is to give each dog the best possible opportunity to adjust and succeed in a home environment.
