Adoption Policy

Purpose

This policy outlines the principles and procedures followed by Canine Welfare Fund when accepting dogs into our care and rehoming them. Our primary objective is to protect and promote the welfare of dogs who are most in need, while ensuring they are placed into safe, suitable and permanent homes.

Adoption Application Process

Prospective adopters must complete an adoption process to ensure suitability. This includes:

● Completion of an application form

● Discussion of the dog’s specific needs

● Proof of identity and address

● Agreement to a home check

● Assessment of lifestyle, experience and expectations

We seek to match each dog with a home capable of meeting their long term physical and emotional needs.

Home Checks

Home checks will be conducted either in person or virtually by a competent person to ensure:

● The home environment is safe and appropriate

● Outdoor areas are secure where required

● All household members are supportive of the adoption

● Existing pets are compatible

● Experienced in dogs with complex needs

Adoption Agreement

All adopters must sign an adoption agreement confirming that they:

● Will provide appropriate care, exercise, nutrition and veterinary treatment

● Will not sell, transfer or give the dog away

● Will return the dog to Canine Welfare Fund if they canno longer care for them

● Understand the specific needs and responsibilities associated with the dog

● Will not breed from or stud any dog who is adopted from our rescue

 Adoption Fees

An adoption fee may be requested to contribute towardsveterinary and care costs. Fees will be reasonable and transparent and inability to pay will not automatically exclude suitable adopters where alternative arrangements can be considered.

After Care Adoption Support

We provide guidance and ongoing support to adopters to promote successful placements, particularly given the additional needs many of our dogs may have.

Returns Policy - (RBU)

If an adopter can no longer care for a dog at any time, the dog must be returned to Canine Welfare Fund. We remain committed to the welfare of our dogs for life. See RBU policy for more details.

Record Keeping and Legal Compliance

We maintain accurate records of intake, veterinary treatment, microchip registration and adoptions in accordance with the The Data Protection Act 2018
